How language can be quite revealing.

Quick epiphany about another literal Dutch translation.

Patience.

Being patient, or the skill, or state of being patient.

Patience translates as "geduld" in Dutch. "Geduld."

If you would translate that again, literally,

then it's the past tense of tolerating.

So, tolerated.

That's quite beautiful, no?

And revealing.

Patience is you exhibiting something that's been tolerated.

Patience is something that's been tolerated.

I'm going to have to look up the etymology of "tolerate" now.
